What does the media know? Really?

I've been looking at Tracey Emin's 'Everyone I Have Ever Slept With (1963-1995) as it is my main inspiration, I absolutely love the concept behind this particular piece of work.
The inside and out.
"Some I'd had a shag with in bed or against a wall some I had just slept with, like my grandma. I used to lay in her bed and hold her hand. We used to listen to the radio together and nod off to sleep. You don't do that with someone you don't love and don't care about"
Momart Fire

Unfortunately, this piece of work went up in flames along with other in saatchi's collection, including, Damien Hirst, Jake and Dinos Chapman and Martin Maloney. I was absolutely appalled with the media's reaction to this. They mocked the idea that losing such artwork was thought of a 'loss'. In much respect I think it is. This tent is a representation of a time in Emin's life and is now gone. For the media to even think that it's 'not hard to re-stitch the names onto a tent' is ludicrous. The motivation and inspiration is no longer there and I'm amazed that i have never noticed before how narrow-minded the media really is.

(x²+y²-1)3-x²y³=0

The fact that this project is only a month long kind of sucks. I want the time to research more into the history of the heart. Did you know there is a mathematical equation for drawing the perfect love heart? And did you know, there is actually a disease called 'broken-hearts' disease? And in ancient times, they believed the heart was the seat of the mind and completely dismissed the concept of the brain. What I still don't understand is how the heart got the 'love heart' shape that is used so commonly used today. There are quite a few theories. I never thought i'd say this but I wish I had more time to research, but I think I need to start looking at my loved ones!

For all the people I've ever loved...

New project!!!!!! I don't think I've ever been so excited for a particular project. It's only a short one but I have big plans!
'J'adore' is the title of this project. The brief basically says that this project should be based around someone we love or admire, but as i have the attention span of a brick wall, I thought spending six weeks looking into one persons life would be a little bit difficult for me so (inspired by Tracey Emin's 'Everyone I've Ever Slept With') I decided to do my project on all the people I've ever loved. This is everyone from my pets as a child to my favorite teachers in primary school teachers to my high school crushes and celebrities I admire. I'm setting myself a huge challenge to be able to research all of these and do a final piece... Wish me luck!

Mistletoe & Wine

The Christmas period is not a time for doing work, and yet I had a tonne to do! But with temptation of joining in with the festive spirit being too great to turn down, i ended up leaving all of my work until the last few days of the Christmas holidays.
I would just like to take the time to thank my mum for giving me the swift kick up the backside that i needed otherwise my work probably wouldn't get done at all. Anyway, the essay was where i started -well from where I left off anyway.
Several long days of writing, and several excruciating long hours of research later my essay was done! I'm not a huge fan of writing, I don't even annotate my sketchbook never mind writing a 1000 word essay, so I can definitely say I'm glad to see the back of it. Along with my essay, I needed to do a mood board to complete my 'The Decade Project'. But this was the easy bit, a while ago, i bought a couple of 1940's replica packs, so sticking those onto an A1 piece of card was relatively easy.
Onto the bit I'd been dreading. My sketchbook with the project all about me. I didn't think I could take anymore of myself but I powered on through like a little work horse and finally completed it twelve hours before it had to be handed in, just in time to settle down with a Krispy Kreme doughnut and watch Greys Anatomy.
